The Voluntary Principles Initiative is a multi-stakeholder initiative that promotes the implementation of a set of principles to guide companies on providing security for their operations while respecting human rights.
The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights help companies understand the environment they are operating in, identify security-related human rights risks, and take meaningful steps to address them. Although originally developed for the extractive and energy sector, the principles are today implemented by a variety of industries.
Many prominent 3rd party assured standards applicable to mining and oil and gas production require the implementation of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
